We started making our collaborative coasters back in 2017, and it took a solid 6 months for us to perfect our method! From start to finish, our coasters can take up to 7 days to complete. It starts with British made tiles that we carefully place our original printmaking artwork on. We then coat them with a thick layer of heavy duty resin that makes them waterproof and heat resistant - ideal for placing your favourite cuppa on! They are footed with felted ‘feet’ to keep them stable and we put a studio sticker on the underside so you know it was us that made them.
With the nature of the artworking process, each coaster we make is totally unique - try as we might, we can never repeat the same pattern which is what makes them so special. The floral styles are created by Gracie using a method that involves foraging for flowers and leaves as well as using stencils, delicately inking each piece up and then rolling it through a printing press onto paper. The geometric styles are made by Susy, using the same colours found in the floral designs. This is done by rolling the inky roller onto paper which in turn, cleans the equipment. These flat textures are then kept and cut out and placed onto the tiles in dynamic compositions. We love this process as not only do the colours and styles all work together but it also means very little materials are wasted.
